Change Orders let you update an approved project scope after a proposal has already been signed — whether you’re adding work, removing items, or adjusting pricing.
Handoff makes this easy by linking the change directly to your original estimate and updating your project totals automatically once approved.
This guide walks you through the recommended workflow.
Before You Start
For the smoothest experience:
Your project should already have an approved proposal
Change orders work best when created from the approved estimate
You can create a new estimate separately if you prefer, but using the Change Order workflow automatically links everything for you.
Open Your Project
Navigate to the Project where you need to make changes
Open the Approved Estimate
Click the estimate that was converted to a proposal
This should be the version your client already signed
Select “Add Change Order”
Click Add Change Order
Handoff will open:
The AI chat
A blank estimate table
A new change order labeled (e.g., CO-1) linked to your original estimate
Describe Your Changes to AI
Use the chat just like creating an estimate.
You can say things like:
Add flooring to the scope
Update quantities
Remove items
Adjust pricing
The AI will build the change order line items for you.
Review the Change Order Details
A pop-up will appear with:
Description
Scope summary
Pricing
You can:
Edit the description
Rename the change order
Make adjustments
Click Approve to generate the change order.
Nothing is sent to the customer yet — this step only confirms creation.
Make Final Edits
Once generated, you can:
Edit line items
Adjust quantities
Change pricing
Continue using AI or manual edits, just like a normal estimate.
Convert to Proposal
When ready:
Click Convert To (top right)
Select Proposal
This sends the change order for client review and signature.
