Change orders let you update a project's scope after a proposal has already been signed — whether you're adding work, removing items, or adjusting pricing. Handoff links the change order to your original estimate and updates your project totals automatically once it's approved.

How to Create a Change Order

  1. Open the project the change order applies to.

  2. Go to the Estimates tab.

  3. Tap the + button and select Change order.

Alternatively, if you have an existing approved proposal open:

  1. Tap the Convert button.

  2. Select Change Order.

This creates a new change order document linked to the original proposal.

Building the Change Order

A change order works like a standard estimate. You can:

  • Add, edit, or remove line items using the estimate table

  • Use the AI chat to describe the additional work and have Handoff generate the line items

  • Attach photos or documents

Sending the Change Order

  1. Once your change order is ready, tap Preview & send.

  2. Send it to your client by email, SMS, or share a public link.

  3. Your client can review and approve the change order online.

After Approval

Once the client approves the change order, the project totals in Handoff are updated automatically to reflect the additional work. The change order appears in the project alongside the original estimate.
