Editing Line Items in Handoff Estimates
Overview
Handoff allows you to edit items in your estimate at any time. You can update individual line items manually or use AI to make changes.
Estimates are built using three row types: Items, Groups, and Sections. Each row type can be added, edited, reordered, or deleted.
Row Types
Item
A single line item that includes:
Name
Quantity
Unit cost
Total
Items are the primary building blocks of your estimate.
Group
A labeled section that contains items. Use groups to organize work by trade, phase, or category, such as Electrical, Framing, or Cleanup.
Section
A top-level container that holds items and groups. Use sections to organize work by location, such as Kitchen or Master Bath.
Adding Items, Groups, and Sections
Tap the + button at the bottom of the estimate table.
Select Item, Group, or Section.
To add a nested item:
Tap the + icon next to an existing group or section.
Select the row type you want to add.
Enter the required details.
Editing a Line Item on Mobile
Tap the line item you want to edit.
Update the name, quantity, unit cost, or other fields.
Tap Done to save your changes.
Editing a Line Item on Desktop
Click into any cell in the estimate table.
Type your changes directly into the cell.
Continue editing as needed.
Changes are saved automatically.
Deleting a Row
On Mobile
Swipe left on the row.
Tap the red trash icon.
Confirm deletion if prompted.
Sections and groups require confirmation before they are deleted.
On Desktop
Click the row to select it.
Open the row menu.
Select the delete option.
Reordering Rows
On Mobile
Press and hold the drag handle on the right side of a row.
Drag the row to the desired position.
Release to drop it into place.
Customizing Columns on Desktop
Open the column settings control in the table header.
Show or hide columns as needed.
Adjust which fields are displayed in the estimate table.
Using AI to Edit Items
You can use Handoff AI to update your estimate.
Open the chat panel.
Describe the changes you want to make.
Example prompts:
Add 10 hours of electrical labor at a specific hourly rate.
Remove all items in the Cleanup section.
Update material quantities for framing.
AI changes will update your estimate based on your instructions.
