Updated this week

Our main estimate view and estimate table got an overhaul! If it looks different, don't worry, we'll walk you through the changes. All the original features are still available, plus a slew of new markups, margins, and tools to dial in estimates and review large estimates faster.

What's New

As of late October 2025, Handoff is rolling out an upgraded the estimate table to give you more control over pricing, better organization, and real-time profit tracking—all in a familiar spreadsheet-style format.

Spreadsheet-Style Editing

The estimate table now works like a spreadsheet. Click into any cell to edit quantities, unit costs, or markups directly. Columns are resizable, and changes save automatically when you click out or press Enter.

Granular Markup Control

You now have three ways to apply markups:

  • Per-item markups – Set unique markups (in % or $) for individual line items

  • Per-group markups – Apply markups to entire groups like plumbing or electrical

  • Below-the-line markups – Add up to 5 layers for contingency, overhead, insurance, or other fees

Real-Time Profit Margins

See both markup and profit margin displayed in real time—at the item level and for your total estimate. The table shows you exactly how much of the client total you're keeping.

Enhanced Columns

The table now includes:

  • Builder Cost

  • Client Total

  • Markup ($ and %)

  • Margin %

  • Description

  • Taxable toggle

Use the column editor to show or hide columns as needed.

Item Descriptions

Add detailed descriptions to any line item—including hyperlinks, specs, or product details. These descriptions carry over to your proposal automatically.

Room-Level Organization

Organize estimates by room or phase using a three-level hierarchy: Room → Group → Item. This is perfect for presenting pricing options to clients or breaking down full-home remodels.

Collapse All / Expand All

Navigate long estimates quickly by collapsing or expanding all groups with one click.

Live Supplier Integration

View product photos, descriptions, and unit conversions for Home Depot and Lowe's items without leaving Handoff. Click the details icon on any item to see this information.

Undo Button

Made a mistake? Click the Undo button in top right of page to reverse your last changes instantly.

Calculations

Builder Cost = Quantity × Unit Cost --- Think like your contractor costs before any markups.

Client Total = Builder Cost + Markup

Profit Margin = (Client Total - Builder Cost) ÷ Client Total ---- this is calculated before tax.

The estimate breakdown at the bottom shows your total cost, total markup, and overall profit margin in real time.

What happened to my old proposals?

Don't worry, old proposals that have been sent to clients are unchanged. The changes is primarily to the contractor-facing estimate, not the client-facing proposal. There are 2 changes made to proposals:

1- if you have an estimate organized by Room, that by-Room pricing will show in the proposal. IE: Kitchen $50,000 , Bathroom $25,000.

2- If you put item descriptions in, those will carry over to the proposal.

Availability

Estimate Table Improvements are available to all users. The rollout begins October 21st and will complete for all users by end of October.
