To capture a walkthrough, open a project in the mobile app, select the + button in the bottom right of the screen, and choose Walkthrough note. Select START, talk through what you see, and take photos. When you select Done, Handoff turns your voice notes and photos into a notes document that you can convert into an estimate.
Available on the Pro, Scale, and Business plans. You need permission to edit Documents. Works in the mobile app only.
Start a walkthrough
In the Handoff mobile app, open the project for the job. If the job doesn't have a project yet, create one first.
On the project's Overview tab, select the + button in the bottom right of the screen.
Select Walkthrough note.
If the camera does not open on the Walkthrough tab, select it. The tabs are Video, Photo, and Walkthrough.
Select START.
A short countdown reads "Get ready to talk in 3...". When it ends, the screen prompts you to take photos and think out loud.
Record your notes and photos
Speak as you walk the job, and take photos of what you are describing. Handoff records your voice and matches each photo to what you were saying at that moment.
No photos yet: you see "Don't forget to take photos."
Microphone problem: you see "Audio recording failed. You can still take photos."
Muted: you see "Muted. You can still take photos."
Handoff needs camera and microphone access. If either is off, the app asks you to open Settings and allow it. A walkthrough does not record video.
Finish and find your notes
Select Done when you finish walking the job.
Wait while the app shows "Uploading photos and audio."
Handoff creates a document with your notes organized by room or area, with your photos placed inline. When you start a walkthrough from a daily log, the notes go into that daily log instead.
Convert your notes into an estimate
A walkthrough creates a notes document. Most people convert it into an estimate, and you can also convert it into other document types.
Open the notes document the walkthrough created.
Select Convert to.
Select Estimate.
Handoff uses your notes and photos to build the new estimate. Review the line items before you send it.
You can also convert the notes into a Change order, Daily log, Task list or Template, or into any document type from your templates.
If Walkthrough is locked
On the Flex plan, Walkthrough shows "Walkthrough is a Pro feature." Upgrade to Pro or Scale to use it.
