Walkthrough Mode (Mobile App Only)

Walkthrough Mode allows subscribers to capture site visit notes and photos while walking a job — and automatically generate a structured walkthrough document that can later be converted into project deliverables.

Walkthrough Mode lets you capture job site observations hands-free — talk through what you see, take photos at the same time, and let Handoff automatically generate a walkthrough document at the end. Available on the mobile app only.

How to Start a Walkthrough

  1. Open a project in the Handoff mobile app.

  2. Tap the camera icon to open capture mode.

  3. At the top of the screen, select the Walkthrough tab (alongside Video and Photo).

  4. Tap the START button to begin.

  5. A 3-second countdown appears: "Get ready to talk in 3..." — tap the button again to skip it.

  6. Audio recording begins. The instruction "Take photos and think out-loud" is shown.

  7. While recording, take photos of what you're observing. The audio and photos are captured together.

  8. When done, end the walkthrough. Handoff uploads your photos and audio and generates the walkthrough document automatically.

Tips During Recording

  • If you haven't taken any photos after a few seconds, you'll see the reminder: "Don't forget to take photos."

  • If the microphone fails, you'll see: "Audio recording failed. You can still take photos."

  • If you mute yourself: "Muted. You can still take photos."

  • When the walkthrough ends: "Uploading photos and audio" is shown while processing.

What Walkthrough Mode Captures

  • Your voice notes (spoken observations)

  • Photos taken during the walkthrough

  • Everything is automatically tied to the project

At the end, Handoff generates a walkthrough document containing your notes and images.

After the Walkthrough

Once the document is created, you can:

  • Edit or clean up the text

  • Add additional items or clarifications

  • Remove items that are no longer needed

  • Convert the walkthrough into an estimate, scope of work, or material list

All files captured during the walkthrough remain stored inside the project.

Permissions Required

Walkthrough Mode requires access to your camera and microphone. If either permission is missing, you'll see a prompt: "[Camera/Microphone] access is required to use walkthrough mode." Tap Open Settings to grant access.

Plan Availability

Walkthrough Mode is available on paid plans. If you're on a free plan, a Pro gate dialog will appear when you try to access it. Upgrade your plan to unlock this feature.
