How to track leads in Handoff

A lead in Handoff is a project in Lead status. See how referral source, the Projects list, and the contact page help you follow it.

In Handoff, a lead is a project in Lead status. Every new project starts as a lead, and you move it forward when you win the job.

Available on the Flex, Pro, Scale, and Business plans. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

How a lead works in Handoff

A contact does not have a Lead status. The status lives on the project.

The default statuses are Lead, Draft, Bidding, Approved, In Progress, Completed, and Archived. On the Pro and Scale plans, you can customize them.

To start a lead, add a contact with Also create new project turned on, or select New project on a client's contact page. Handoff creates the project in Lead status.

Record where a lead came from

For a Client contact, set Referral source to note where the lead came from, such as Word of mouth or Google Search / Maps. You can set it when you add or edit the contact. See How to add or edit a contact.

Find your leads in the Projects list

Open Projects and filter the list by status to show only your Lead projects. Switch the filter to another status to see projects further along.

See a contact's projects and activity

Open a contact from Contacts to see its page. The Projects card lists the client's projects, and the Activity button opens a log of key events and updates for the contact. You can add your own entry with New activity.

Move a lead forward when you win

Handoff moves the project forward as you work. Sending a proposal moves it to Bidding, and your client approving it moves it to Approved. You can also change it yourself with the status control at the top of the project.
