Overview
AI Takeoff automatically analyzes your project drawings and generates a draft estimate by measuring and counting quantities across each scope of work. Upload your plans, provide any additional instructions, and Handoff will build the estimate for you.
AI Takeoff is designed for residential projects up to 5,000 square feet and typically completes within 1 to 2 hours.
AI takeoff mode is exclusively a Scale Plan feature. Please reach out to use through chat or at [email protected] to inquire on these features.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open your project and create a new estimate.
Open the AI chat for the estimate.
Click the + button in the bottom-left corner of the composer.
Select Takeoff mode.
Add your project drawings by either:
Clicking Upload files to upload files from your device, or
Clicking Select from project to use files already attached to the project.
(Optional) Add takeoff instructions to provide details that are not shown in the drawings. For example:
Include all scope except cabinets and countertops.
Use vinyl siding instead of the metal siding shown in the plans.
Estimate using mid-grade finishes.
You can type your instructions or use Voice-to-text.
Confirm the project location. The selected location is used to calculate local material pricing and labor rates. Update it if necessary.
Click Start takeoff.
Wait for processing. Handoff will analyze your drawings, complete the quantity takeoff, and automatically generate a draft estimate.

AI Takeoff supports the following file types:
PDF
PNG
JPG
TIFF
You can upload up to 300 pages total with a maximum combined size of 200 MB.
AI Takeoff is optimized for residential projects up to 5,000 square feet.
Processing typically takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the plans.
The Takeoff Instructions field is optional but recommended when you want Handoff to include assumptions or requirements that are not visible in the drawings.
The Project Location is used to estimate local labor and material costs, so verify that it is correct before starting the takeoff.

I can't find Takeoff mode
Why it happens
AI Takeoff is only available when starting a new estimate.
How to fix it
Create a new estimate and launch AI Takeoff before adding any manual line items
My files won't upload
Why it happens
The files exceed the supported limits or use an unsupported format.
How to fix it
Use PDF, PNG, JPG, or TIFF files.
Keep the total upload to 300 pages or fewer and 200 MB or less.
The takeoff is taking longer than expected
Why it happens
Larger or more complex drawing sets require additional processing time.
How to fix it
Allow up to two hours for processing. Once complete, Handoff will automatically populate your estimate with the generated line items.
