How to add multiple estimate options to a proposal

Offer your client several priced options in one proposal and let them choose when they approve. Scale plan.

Overview

Multiple estimate options let you offer your client several ways to complete a job within a single proposal. Each option has its own pricing, and your client selects the option they want when approving the proposal.

You can include up to five options in a proposal. Multiple options are available on the Scale plan.

Add estimate options

  1. Open the estimate and stay on the Estimate tab.

  2. Find the estimate option tabs at the top of the estimate. A new estimate starts with a single option.

  3. Select + next to the option tabs to add another option. Handoff creates a blank option and opens it.

  4. Duplicate an existing option if you want to use an option you have already priced as a starting point. Open the option's menu and select Duplicate.

  5. Rename each option so your client can easily understand the difference. Open the option's menu, select Rename, and enter a descriptive name such as "Standard finish" or "Premium finish."

  6. Select an option tab to work on that estimate. Each option is its own estimate, so you can price its line items as you would with any other estimate.

  7. Build the proposal as usual. The Estimate section of the proposal displays the option currently being viewed.

  8. Send the proposal to your client. They can review all available options in the same proposal and select one when they approve.

Additional notes

  • A proposal can include up to five estimate options. The + button becomes unavailable after five options have been added.

  • Each option can have a different total. The payment schedule accounts for the selected option rather than assuming a single proposal total.

  • To delete an option, open its menu, select Delete, and confirm. Deleting an option also deletes its estimate.

  • When your client approves an option, the remaining options are marked as not selected. They remain on the proposal for your records.

  • Sent and approved proposals are read-only. To make changes, open the menu in the top bar and select Edit to return the estimate to draft.

  • On plans below Scale, an estimate has a single option and the option tabs are not available.
