How to export an estimate to CSV

Export an estimate as a CSV file from its options menu, and see which columns the file includes.

Written by Sofia Herrera

To export an estimate to CSV, open the estimate, select the three-dot options menu, then select Export as > CSV. The file has one row per estimate item, which you can open in a spreadsheet or import into other software.

Available on all plans. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

Export an estimate as a CSV file

  1. Open the estimate.

  2. Select the three-dot options menu.

  3. Select Export as, then select CSV.

  4. If the Export CSV dialog appears, pick the estimates to export. You get one CSV file for each.

  5. Save the file to your device. In the mobile app, the share sheet opens, so choose where to save or send the file.

The same menu also exports a PDF.

What columns the CSV includes

Each row is one estimate item. The columns, in order, are:

  • Room and Group: where the item sits. Room appears only when rooms are used.

  • Option group, Type, and Selected: shown only when the estimate has options.

  • Item Title and description

  • Quantity, UoM (unit of measure), and Rate

  • Builder cost, Markup %, Markup $, and Profit margin %

  • Taxable and Tax applied

  • Client total

  • Category and Cost Code

  • Total

Total is the client total, which includes markup. Builder cost is your cost before markup.

Use the CSV file in other software

You can open the file in Excel or Google Sheets, or import it into another estimating or budgeting tool. Map the columns yourself during that tool's import.

  • UoM: Handoff uses short unit codes, such as CY for cubic yards. Match them to the other tool's units if its names differ.

  • Unit price: Rate is the unit price before markup.

  • Extended price: use Total for the client price, or Builder cost for your cost.

  • Markup: if the other tool applies its own markup, import Builder cost and leave markup to that tool.
