What is this?
If you already use Claude or ChatGPT to help run your business, you can now connect those tools directly to your Handoff account. That means you can create projects, build estimates, send proposals, and manage invoices in plain English — through a conversation — without logging into Handoff for every step.
This uses a standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Think of it as a secure connection that lets your AI assistant take action inside your Handoff account.
Who can use this?
MCP is available to Scale plan customers only.
What can you do with it?
Once connected, your AI assistant can:
Projects
Create and delete projects
Assign a client and location at creation
Update project name, status, and assigned client
Create a project with an AI-generated estimate in one step
Estimates
Build estimates with full line items and nested sections
Edit or delete any line item or section
Read itemized breakdowns with quantities, rates, and totals
Manage payment schedules
Export to PDF or CSV
Create change orders
Proposals
Generate a proposal from an estimate
Collect client signatures
Approve, decline, or cancel
Invoices
Create and edit invoices from an estimate
Send to clients via email or SMS
Log manual payments
Mark invoices as paid
Export to PDF or receipt
Contacts
Create, edit, and look up client contacts
Cost book / templates
Read your org's templates, terms, and rate catalogs
How to connect
Note: Only account admins can access the MCP URL. Once generated, an admin can share this same URL with anyone on the team. Each person connects it to their own AI assistant and signs in with their own Handoff login.
Handoff (admin only)
Go to Settings
Click on Integrations and API Keys
In the "AI Assistants (MCP)" section, click Connect
Copy the MCP URL and share it with anyone on your team who needs it
Claude Desktop
Open Claude
Go to Settings → Connectors
Click Add → Add Custom Connector
Paste the MCP URL from Handoff and click Save
Click Connect. This opens the Handoff consent screen. If you're not already logged in to Handoff, you'll be prompted to log in first. The connection is tied to whichever Handoff account you log in with, not to the admin who generated the URL.
Start a new conversation
ChatGPT / Codex
Go to ChatGPT
Go to Settings → Security and login and enable "Developer mode"
In the settings, click on Plugins
Click Browse Plugins
Click Add
Customize the name and description
Paste the MCP URL in the Connection field. This opens the Handoff consent screen and connects using the Handoff account you're logged into (or prompts you to log in).
Is it secure?
Yes. Each person's connection is tied to the Handoff account they're logged into at the moment they authorize access, so teammates can each connect their own AI assistant using the same MCP URL without sharing credentials. Access is scoped to your organization, revocable at any time, and stored securely. Destructive actions (like deleting a project) require an explicit confirmation step.
My tool doesn't support sign-in
Some tools can't sign in. For those, create an API key on the API Keys tab and use that instead. Treat it like a password. Anyone with it can act for your organization.
