What is this?
You can connect Claude or ChatGPT to your Handoff account to create projects, build estimates, send proposals, and manage invoices through a conversation.
Handoff is available in Claude’s directory as a connector and in ChatGPT’s directory as a plugin. Choose your assistant below to get started.
The connection uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), a standard that lets your AI assistant work with your Handoff account.
Who can use this?
MCP is available to Scale plan customers only.
What can you do with it?
Once connected, your AI assistant can:

Create and delete projects
Assign a client and location at creation
Update project name, status, and assigned client
Create a project with an AI-generated estimate in one step
Estimates
Build estimates with full line items and nested sections
Edit or delete any line item or section
Read itemized breakdowns with quantities, rates, and totals
Manage payment schedules
Export to PDF or CSV
Create change orders
Proposals
Generate a proposal from an estimate
Send via email and/or SMS
Collect client signatures
Approve, decline, or cancel
Invoices
Create and edit invoices from an estimate

How to connect
Claude
Open the Handoff connector in Claude. You can also go to Customize, select Connectors, and search for Handoff.
Choose the Handoff connector by Handoff, described as “Manage construction projects through Claude.” Click Connect to Claude.
Sign in to your Handoff account when prompted and follow the steps to authorize access. Use your own Handoff login.
Start a new conversation and make sure the Handoff connector is available for the chat.
ChatGPT
Open the Handoff plugin in ChatGPT. You can also open Plugins in the sidebar and search for Handoff.
Choose Handoff by 1build and click Install plugin.
Complete the Handoff connection steps. Click Connect if prompted, sign in with your own Handoff login, and authorize access.
Start a conversation and select Handoff from the available plugins, or mention it with @.
You do not need to create a custom connector or turn on developer mode to install the listed Handoff plugin. Availability can depend on your AI assistant’s plan and workspace settings. If your workspace restricts connectors or plugins, ask your workspace admin to allow Handoff.
Try your first request
Once connected, try: “List my Handoff projects and summarize their current status.”
Manual setup with an MCP URL
Use manual setup if you are connecting another assistant that supports MCP or need a custom connection.
Only Handoff account admins can access the MCP URL in settings. An admin can share the URL with teammates. Each person signs in with their own Handoff login when connecting.
In Handoff, go to Settings, then Integrations and API Keys.
In the AI Assistants (MCP) section, click Connect.
Copy the MCP URL.
In your AI assistant, add a custom MCP connection and paste the URL. In Claude, use the option to add a custom connector.
Sign in to your Handoff account and authorize access when prompted.
For custom connections in ChatGPT, follow OpenAI’s developer mode and MCP setup instructions. Custom connection requirements differ from installing the listed plugin.
Is it secure?
Each person connects using their own Handoff login. Access is tied to the Handoff account you authorize, whether you connect through a directory listing or use an MCP URL. Access is scoped to your organization, revocable at any time, and stored securely. Destructive actions (like deleting a project) require an explicit confirmation step.
My tool doesn't support sign-in
Some tools can't sign in. For those, create an API key on the API Keys tab and use that instead. Treat it like a password. Anyone with it can act for your organization.
