To get a more detailed estimate, give Handy (Handoff's AI assistant) specifics in your first message, then ask for the breakdown you want in a follow-up. The more you say about size, scope, and materials, the less Handy has to assume.
Available on all plans. You need permission to edit Estimates to change an estimate. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.
Put specifics in your first message
Include what you know from this list.
Size: square footage, room sizes, and ceiling heights.
Scope: every trade and task to include, such as demo, framing, drywall, tile, paint, electrical, and plumbing.
Materials: countertop type, flooring, cabinet style, and tile size.
Existing conditions: what you remove and what stays.
Finish level: builder-grade, mid-range, or high-end.
When details are missing, Handy uses typical industry assumptions. For how it picks quantities, see How Handoff calculates quantities.
Ask for a finer breakdown
After the estimate is built, open Ask Handy and ask for the detail you want. On desktop, select Ask Handy at the top of the left sidebar. In the mobile app, select the Ask Handy bar at the bottom of the screen. Handy keeps the total the same when you only ask it to break items down or reorganize them. Try requests like these.
"Break the flooring labor into remove old carpet and install LVP."
"List each electrical fixture as its own item."
"Add permit fees and a dumpster rental."
"Add descriptions to every item."
Handy does not write item descriptions unless you ask for them.
Organize by room or trade
Ask Handy to "organize this estimate by room." Handy builds sections for rooms and groups for trades inside them. If you name only one way to split, such as "split by room," Handy asks what to use for the second level. The estimate has two levels at most, so you can't ask for a third.
Save instructions that apply to every estimate
To make Handy follow a rule on every estimate, such as always including permit fees, save it as an instruction. Go to Settings > AI Settings > Presets. For how instructions and presets work, see What Presets are and how they work.
