Handy (Handoff's AI assistant) sets quantities from the numbers you give it first, such as square footage, room count, and dimensions. When details are missing, it fills the gaps with typical industry assumptions, which you should review.
Available on all plans. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.
Where quantities come from
Handy looks at these sources.
Your message: square footage, number of rooms, dimensions, and features you name.
Your files: plans or documents you attach to the chat.
Your saved context: your presets and rates, and what Handoff knows about how you work. Labor can be priced from a productivity rate, with hours worked out from the area.
Industry assumptions: typical sizes and coverages, used only when the first three don't answer the question.
Specific numbers you give always beat an assumption. The more you tell Handy, the fewer assumptions it makes. For tips, see How to get more detailed estimates.
Units
Handy usually prices labor in hours (HRS) and materials in units such as LF, SF, EA, and CY. Each item has a unit you can change. To use a different unit, open the item and pick one from the list, or add a custom unit.
Check and correct quantities
Handy lists the assumptions it used when they drive a result, and it invites your own numbers. Quantities are estimates, so check them against your plans and measurements.
To see why an item has its quantity, ask in Ask Handy. Handy explains its assumptions without changing the estimate. To change a quantity, edit the Quantity cell on desktop, select the item and edit Quantity in the mobile app, or ask Handy to change it. See How to fix an estimate with Handy or by hand.
