To create an estimate, select Create > Estimate on desktop, or the + button > Estimate in the mobile app, then describe the job in the chat. Handy (Handoff's AI assistant) builds the estimate from your description, and you review it and refine it with follow-up messages.
Available on all plans. Flex includes 50 AI credits a month, and Pro and Scale are unlimited. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.
Start an estimate
You can start from a client page or a project.
From a client page: On desktop, select Create > Estimate. In the mobile app, select the + button, then Estimate. Handy asks you to pick one of the client's projects first.
From a project: Open the project's Estimates tab. On desktop, select Create estimate. In the mobile app, select the + button, then Create estimate.
You need permission to edit estimates to see these options.
Describe the job
In the chat, type a description of the job in the Ask Handy box.
Include dimensions, materials, finish level, and every scope that is in the job.
Send the message.
Handy may look up your presets, catalog rates, and past work first, then it creates the estimate. A message can be up to 25,000 characters. An example that works well:
"This bathroom remodel is 7' x 10' with 8' ceilings. Replace the shower pan, tile, toilet, vanity, sink, lights, and fan. Repaint with 2 coats."
You can also attach photos or drawings to the same message.
Review the plan first
For new estimates, Handy can show an Estimate plan card before it prices anything. The card lists the scope and the decisions Handy needs from you.
Describe changes in the message box to revise the plan. Select Approve this plan to have Handy start estimating, or Exit plan mode to go back to the chat. Plan mode is not available on Flex, and it only applies to new estimates.
What happens next
Handy creates the estimate and adds the line items to the estimate table. Ask for changes in plain language, such as "Remove the painting section." You can also edit any line item directly in the table.
Each follow-up that changes the estimate saves a new version. On Flex, every message you send uses 1 of your 50 monthly AI credits.
