Yes! Handoff can estimate a wide range of insurance claim and remediation projects. It is a popular alternative to Xactimate — many contractors use it to submit remediation estimates directly to adjusters and insurance companies.

Project Types Handoff Can Estimate

  • Flood damage

  • Fire damage

  • Wind damage

  • Mold remediation

  • Smoke and soot damage

  • Water intrusion and drying

  • General structural repairs

How to Create a Remediation Estimate

  1. Go to the Projects screen and create a new project (or open an existing one).

  2. Inside the project, tap + to create a new estimate.

  3. Open the AI chat and describe the scope — include the type of damage, affected areas, square footage, and any materials or equipment needed.

  4. Handoff AI will generate an itemized estimate with quantities, unit costs, and totals.

  5. Edit line items as needed using the estimate table.

  6. When ready, convert the estimate to a Proposal to send to your client or adjuster.

Tips for Insurance Estimates

  • Be specific in the AI chat — include square footage, affected rooms, material specs, and labor type. The more detail you provide, the more accurate the estimate.

  • Use the walkthrough feature — walk the job site and describe damage out loud while taking photos. Handoff will generate the estimate from your audio and photos.

  • Group by trade or phase — use Sections to organize line items (e.g. Demolition, Drying, Rebuild). This makes it easier for adjusters to review.

  • Export to PDF — tap the menu icon and select Export to PDF to create a formatted document you can email to the insurance company.

Is Handoff Xactimate-compatible?

Handoff does not use Xactimate pricing codes or import/export in Xactimate format. However, it produces professional itemized estimates that many contractors successfully submit for insurance claims. You can export your estimate as a PDF for submission.
