If you're seeing a red banner that says:
“There was an issue exporting your PDF. Please try again.”
…it means the export ran into a technical snag. Here's what to check and how to fix it.
✅ First, Double-Check the Basics
To export a PDF correctly:
Switch to Proposal View
Use the toggle at the top-center of your screen to change from Estimate View to Proposal View.Export the Proposal
Click the three dots in the top-right corner and select “Export as PDF.”PDF Loads in a New Tab
The document should open in a new browser tab. You can also try “Print”, which triggers the same PDF generation.
🔍 Known Causes of Export Failure
If you're seeing the red banner error, here are common reasons it happens:
Overloaded Content:
A section of your proposal has too much text or too many line breaks under a header, or so many line breaks that it exceeds a full page. Then the export fails. You can fix this by checking for any item names or group names with too many line breaks or long text length, and reducing the text.Too Many Attachments or Photos:
A large number of files can cause the PDF export to time out before it finishes rendering. Then the export fails. You can fix this by reducing attachments.Browser Pop-Up Blockers:
This usually doesn’t trigger the red banner, but can prevent the PDF tab from opening. Check your browser's address bar for a “pop-up blocked” icon. Chrome, Firefox, Edge usually have this little icon pictured here:

Test Another Estimate
Go to a different estimate and try exporting a proposal. Does the same red error happen?
If still an error: it may be a browser/device issue. Try on a different phone or computer when you can.
If no error: it’s something specific to the original proposal content.
