How AI credits work

See how many AI credits each plan includes, what uses a credit, when Flex credits reset, and where to check your balance in Settings.

Written by Dave Pucci

Each message you send to Handy (Handoff's AI assistant) uses 1 AI credit. The Flex plan includes 50 credits a month. Pro, Scale, and trial accounts have unlimited messages.

Available on all plans. Only the Flex plan has a monthly limit. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

What uses a credit

  • Chat messages: every message you send uses 1 credit, whether Handy answers a question or builds an estimate.

  • Live Mode on Flex: one voice session uses 1 credit in total. The messages inside the session don't use more.

  • Tool work: estimate rows, research, and the Enhance your message with AI button don't use extra credits.

Credits by plan

  • Flex: 50 AI credits per month.

  • Pro and Scale: unlimited.

  • Free trial: unlimited, the same as Pro.

  • Expired or canceled accounts: a one-time allowance of 20 chat messages. It doesn't refill.

Check your balance

On a Flex plan, go to Settings > Subscription. The Plan usage card shows an AI Credits row with how many you have used and your limit, plus Used this month and Resets on with the date.

Pro and Scale accounts don't have an AI Credits row, because their messages are unlimited. Free trial accounts don't see Subscription in Settings.

When you run out

On Flex, the message box shows "You're out of AI credits." with an Upgrade to unlimited option. A dialog titled "AI Credit Limit Reached" explains that Pro includes unlimited AI usage. In Live Mode, you see a message to upgrade before you can start another voice conversation.

After the 20 free messages on an expired account, Handy shows a card with View plans.

When Flex credits reset

Flex credits reset when your subscription renews. Annual subscribers reset every 30 days or more, and the Resets on date shows the next one.

AI takeoff credits and AI walkthroughs are counted separately from chat credits.
