Options & Add Ons let your client choose between alternatives and pick optional extras on a single estimate. Each item is Included, an Add-on, or part of a group of Options, and only the scope your client selects counts toward totals and invoices.
Available on the Pro and Scale plans. You need permission to edit Estimates. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.
The three settings for an item
Every item on a draft estimate has an Options & Add Ons setting with three values:
Included: the default. The item is part of the job and your client can't change it.
Add-on: an optional extra. Your client checks it to include it. On the proposal it shows the amount it adds, such as + $1,200.
Options: a group of alternatives for the same item, up to five. Your client chooses one. Each alternative shows its full price.
For example, your client can choose marble, quartz, or granite countertops and decide whether to add an under-cabinet lighting upgrade.
How totals and invoices use the selection
Estimate and proposal totals count only the Included items, the selected alternative in each Options group, and the Add-ons that are checked. Unselected alternatives and unchecked Add-ons stay on the document but are left out of the total.
When your client changes a choice, the subtotal, tax, grand total, payment amounts, and financing amount update right away. An invoice created from the estimate or the approved proposal includes only that selected scope.
Starting selections and approval
When your client approves the proposal, Handoff saves their choices and prices. Later edits to the estimate don't change what they accepted. An Add-on starts unchecked unless you turn on Include this add-on. In an Options group, the alternative you select counts until your client picks another. The chosen option and each included Add-on show a Selected badge on your estimate, and the choices become read-only.
An approved proposal exports with the scope your client agreed to. To show everything you offered, turn on Include options and add-ons when you export a PDF. The PDF marks what was chosen and what was not. A CSV always includes the whole offer.
You can create new Options and Add-ons only on the Pro and Scale plans. Options and Add-ons you already created stay on the estimate and stay editable while it is a draft.
Options & Add Ons compared with multiple estimate options
Options & Add Ons apply to individual items inside one estimate. To offer different versions of the whole job, such as Good, Better, and Best, use multiple estimate options instead. See How to add multiple estimate options to a proposal.
