What your client sees in the client portal

The client portal is where your client reviews shared items, approves and signs, pays invoices, and messages you. See how they sign in and what each tab shows.

The client portal is a page where your client sees what you share, approves and signs proposals and change orders, pays invoices, and messages you. Clients sign in with a one-time code, so they never need a password, a Handoff account, or the app.

Available on the Pro and Scale plans. You need permission to edit Projects to set up the portal. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

How your client gets in

When you invite a client, they get an email and a text with a link to the portal. Opening the link sends a one-time code to their phone, or to their email if the invite has no phone number. They enter the code on the Please verify your account screen and are in.

Returning clients can open the portal link and enter their phone number or email address. They receive a code only if you have already added or invited them. Anyone else gets nothing.

A Welcome screen on first sign-in shows what they can do: see updates, approve, and pay.

What each tab shows

The client portal has these tabs:

  • Updates: everything you have shared, newest first, with filters for All, Daily logs, Change orders, Proposals, Invoices, Documents, and Files. Each card shows the status, such as Approved or Paid.

  • Payments: an Approved total with Paid to date, Processing, Overdue, and Remaining, plus Balance details.

  • Messages: the conversation with your team.

  • Schedules: a read-only schedule. This tab appears only when you turn on Show schedule.

Tasks can't be shared to the client portal, so clients never see them.

What your client can do

  • Approve and sign: selecting a proposal or change order opens the same page they would get from an emailed link. They can give feedback, decline, or accept, and sign with a typed or drawn signature.

  • Pay: selecting an invoice opens the invoice page, where they pay. The status in the portal changes to Processing and then Paid.

  • Message you: they can start a new message, or message from any shared item.

  • Open documents, daily logs, and files: these open on their own shared pages.

Message your client and preview the portal

In the Client portal card on the project Overview tab, the message button shows your unread count, such as 2 messages. Select it to read and reply.

On desktop it opens a side drawer. In the mobile app it opens a full-screen Messages view.

Select View as client on the card to see the portal the way your client does. The preview is read-only, so you can't send messages from it.
