How to manage a project

Edit a project's name, assignee, labels, and status, customize the Overview page, archive a project, or delete one and have support restore it.

Written by Dave Pucci

To manage a project, open it from the Projects list and use the header on the Overview tab. You edit the name, assignee, labels, and status there, and you archive or delete the project from the same page.

Available on the Flex, Pro, Scale, and Business plans. Labels are on the Pro and Scale plans. You need permission to edit Projects to change these details, and permission to delete Projects to delete one. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

Find the project page and its tabs

Select a project in the Projects list. On desktop, the left sidebar switches to the project's sections, such as Overview, Estimates, Budget, Invoices, and Documents. In the mobile app, the same sections appear as tabs under the project header.

You only see the tabs your role can view. To create a project, see How to create your first project and estimate.

Edit the name, assignee, and labels

  1. Open the project and go to the Overview tab.

  2. To rename the project, select the title and type a new name. A project with no name shows Untitled project.

  3. To assign someone, select the assignee chip, which reads No assignee when empty, and choose a team member. In the mobile app, the chip opens the Assign user dialog.

  4. To add labels, select Add labels and choose from your existing labels. A project can have up to 15 labels.

To change the address or client, select the Address chip or use the Client details card. The project number is set automatically and you can't change it.

Change a project's status

Select the status chip in the project header and choose a new status. On desktop, it opens a dropdown. In the mobile app, it opens a sheet titled Project phase.

The chip shows the project's current status, such as Bidding, or Set phase if the project has none. Status and phase are the same thing, and Settings and filters call it status. Changing a project's status works on every plan.

Customize the Overview page

On desktop, select Customize overview at the top of the Overview tab. In the mobile app, open the menu at the top of the project and select Customize overview.

Archive or delete a project

To archive a project, change its status to Archived. Archiving moves the project to that status and does not hide it, so archived projects still appear in your Projects list.

To delete a project, open the three-dot menu on the Overview tab and select Delete. Deleting removes the project along with its estimates and invoices.

If you delete a project by mistake, contact support to restore it. You can't restore it yourself.
