How to send a payment receipt

Send your client a receipt by text, email, or link after an invoice is paid, then resend it or save a copy for your records.

Written by Dave Pucci

To send a payment receipt, open a paid invoice, select the three-dot menu in the invoice header, and select Send Receipt. Choose how to send it, then select Send.

Available on the Flex, Pro, Scale, and Business plans. You need permission to edit Invoices and payments. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

Send a receipt for a paid invoice

  1. Open the paid invoice from your project's Invoices tab.

  2. Select the three-dot menu in the invoice header.

  3. Select Send Receipt.

  4. In the dialog, which is titled Send invoice but sends the receipt, check SMS, Email, or both for your client. Select Share if you also want the receipt link.

  5. Select Send. On desktop, the button reads Send and copy link or Copy link when you select Share.

Send Receipt appears only on invoices marked Paid. That includes invoices your client paid online and invoices where you logged a payment yourself. If the invoice is still unpaid, see How to log a payment and track invoice status.

What your client receives

  • Text: a message saying your company has shared a receipt, with a link to view it.

  • Email: a receipt email with the same link. If your client replies, the reply goes to your company email.

  • Link: if you select Share, you get the receipt link to send yourself.

Your client opens the link to view the receipt. After an online payment, your client also sees a Thank you confirmation on the payment page.

Resend a receipt or save a copy

To resend a receipt, select Send Receipt again from the same menu.

To keep your own copy, use Download Receipt on desktop or Export receipt PDF in the mobile app. Print Receipt is available on desktop only.
