How to edit your markup

Set default labor, material and other markups in Presets, or change markup on a single estimate from its breakdown.

Written by Handoff Support

To edit your default markup, go to Settings > AI Settings > Presets, open the Estimates tab, and change Markups. To change markup on one estimate only, open the estimate, select Show breakdown on desktop or See breakdown in the mobile app, and select a row under Total markup.

Available on all plans. You need permission to edit AI settings to change defaults. Without it, the rows are read-only. Works on desktop and in the mobile app.

Change your default markups for new estimates

  1. Go to Settings > AI Settings > Presets.

  2. Open the Estimates tab.

  3. Expand Basic estimate presets, then select Markups.

  4. Choose Set default markups.

  5. Enter a percentage in Labor markup, Material markup and Other markup.

  6. Select Save presets.

New estimates start with these values. The defaults are not saved until you select Save presets.

Make new estimates reuse your last markups

In the Markups dialog, choose Keep last used values instead of Set default markups. New estimates then reuse the values from your most recent estimate, including any changes you made on that estimate.

New accounts start in this mode. The first estimate has no earlier one to copy, so it uses the starting values from setup, or 0% if you skipped that step.

Change markup on a single estimate

  1. Open the estimate.

  2. At the bottom of the estimate, select Show breakdown on desktop or See breakdown in the mobile app.

  3. Under Total markup, select the Material, Labor or Other row.

  4. Enter a percentage or a fixed dollar amount. In the mobile app, select Save. On desktop, there is no Save button, and the change saves when you leave the field.

The row then shows Custom. To go back to your default, select the row and select Reset markup. A percentage must be between 0 and 999%.

On a single estimate, a change does not edit your saved defaults. But if Keep last used values is selected, the next estimate copies the one you edited. With Set default markups, the next estimate starts from your saved defaults.
